Useless Machines, Functional Art

Exhibition branding

What if machines could be humanized through art?

Forty years before the advent of computers and interaction design (as we define it today), there was Munari, Olivetti, and Arte Programmata. Bruno Munari challenged the viewer to consider the “usefulness” of machines through his art and Italian machine manufacturer Olivetti challenged audiences to consider the “aesthetics” of machines.

Created as part of graduate student work at SCAD, this exhibit idea and its corresponding branding showcases just how revolutionary these Italians were.
